This was quite a large project whose objective was to give Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers practice in aviation communications in English. This was part of a wider blended learning package including synchronous interactions with an Aviation English Instructor via Zoom. The focus of the asynchronous self-access part of the modules was to provide practice in grammar, vocabulary and listening which was all put together in the practice sessions with the trainer.
There was a lot of liaising with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) in order to make sure the context was authentic and accurate. It was important that the training was underpinned by empirical methods based on second language acquisition and specialist approaches from the domain of linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Objectives were established and activities developed using the interaction between language leaning theories and Blooms Taxonomy. The project was storyboarded and built whilst observing Gagne’s 9 Events Model
The software used was Adobe® Photoshop, Adobe® Illustrator, Microsoft® PowerPoint and finally, Articulate Storyline360. The project was deployed on a WordPress site using LearnDash™ as the LMS with some extra SCORM functionality provided by some additional plugins.
